Apollo: Mission to the Moon - Coroprate Team Building Activity in Fraiser Valley, BC

This is Kristen with another corporate events update.

Our latest event took us to the Harrison Hot Springs Resort in the Fraser valley of beautiful British Columbia. We executed a small Mission to the Moon event for a group of vision care specialists. This Mission to the Moon event was part of their week long conference. It was really great to see teams working together, communicating and having a great afternoon together. A little bit of a diversion from the conference that they've been in all week. Participants really enjoyed the extra challenges for extra special supplies - decorating and building their rockets. They also enjoyed using their physics skills to protect the precious cargo in their rockets, however the highlight was definitely the launch. Lots of groups launched their rockets high into the sky and all groups protected their precious cargo throughout the blast.

Adding technology to your programs and events.

According to meetings and technology expert Corbin Ball, technology continues to move forward at a fast pace, and it’s changing the channels of communication. In the past we've all attended meetings and been asked to turn off our phones. Today, attendees are encouraged to tweet during conferences and share their experience and inspire conversation. Virtual meetings quickly connect people from all over the world.

See the world with a Smartphone Scavenger Hunt
Gone are the days of pens and note pads. Instead, attendees expect wireless everything. People are plugged into their Smartphones and iPads, streaming content and collaborating in the cloud. Convention facilities are noticing these new trends and responding by adding convenient charging stations.

Smartphone scavenger hunts and apps spark engagement between attendees and can allow teams to explore the destination city. These popular conference enhancements are easy to set up, scalable for large groups and can be played anywhere.

Take our quick survey about adding technology to your events!

Giving With Gratitute in Boston

Giving with Gratitude
An End-Hunger Games Event in Boston

Our Corporate Explorer Training designed a custom "End Hunger Games" program to focus on giving with gratitude for Rosie’s Place, a non-profit organization helping poor and homeless women in Boston. Last month, Controllers from a Real Estate Management and Development Company created replicas of property development projects in their portfolio using non-perishable food items. At the end of the team building training session, all food was generously donated to Rosie’s Place and helped to bring nourishment and renewed hope to women living in Boston.

Since 1974, Rosie's Place has evolved from providing meals and shelter to creating permanent solutions through advocacy, education and affordable housing. The “grocery store” contains shelves stocked with donated non perishable food items, meat and fresh produce. Each month, 1,800 women “shop” for 20 - 40 lbs of free food items. Rosie’s Place Groceries uses this culturally sensitive approach to respect the dignity and self-esteem of their guests while ensuring that valuable resources are used effectively.

A philanthropic team building and training event is a meaningful and effective way to give back to your community. Reconnect with coworkers; boost your corporate social responsibility initiatives and truly make a difference. Thanks to all participants for an incredible day and for helping us give back to Rosie's Place and the Boston community. Visit our Facebook page to see more photos!

Wild Goose Chase ... our new ridiculous Smartphone Event!

Take a smartphone-powered scavenger hunt. Mix in some Fear Factor. What do you have? A Wild Goose Chase. Get out of your comfort zone, take on daring challenges, hilarious missions, fun times, and friendly competition!
Reward your team with a Wild Goose Chase

The Wild Goose Chase Event can be modified for a variety of environments and locations. The game can be played in a few hours, or over several days during a conference. We can provide custom challenges and tasks to match your location, theme, company or objectives of your meeting. All you need is a few smartphones and a group of willing participants!

We recently ran this event for the 20,000 delegates at the Pacific Dental Conference in Vancouver. It is a great networking and conference activity for large groups, plus it allows delegates to visit local attractions and see the city sights.

Participants can easily download the mobile app and play the game as an ice-breaker or networking activity, during breaks or as part of evening social functions. It is a great way to interact with colleagues and collaborate on fun team challenges. Teams collect points and can monitor their progress and see the live leaderboard throughout the game. Plus, this event also works for those on a budget, for large groups it can be as little as $5-$10 per person!

We also offer a city version open to the public! Do you want to experience your own Wild Goose Chase? Check out our Urban Goose Chase! We will be bringing the fun and excitement to a city near you this summer!

Crime Investigators in Action!

Crime Investigators Team Building Activity
from Canadian Outback Adventures & Events
Hi, this is an event post from Marybeth in our Canadian Outback Adventures & Events Toronto Office with another corporate event update.

We recently ran a Crime Investigators event for a security company up in North York, Toronto. It was great to have a few ex-police officers as the participants because they brought great expertise to the table. Teams had to go around to the various crime scenes that were setup, collect the evidence, document the scene and ultimately help our CSI team solve the crime.

It was an awesome event, people were super excited to get out of their usual work environment and interact with co-workers. There was great enthusiasm, friendly competition and really good sense of humor, which made the afternoon a lot of fun. It was great to see everyone working together in their teams and really coming together to get the best out of everyone.

See photos and listen to the post-event wrap up here!

Snowshoe Through a Winter Wonderland

View from Grouse Mountain at sunset

Hi, it's Shannen from the Outback Group, and I just finished a fun 5.5km snowshoe race on Grouse Mountain, one of our local mountains in North Vancouver. I love extreme sports and adventure races and I have been competing in snowshoe races for the last 4 years.

Snow-shoeing does not have to be an extreme sport. I started snowshoeing because I wanted to enjoy winter and be active during the cold, dark  months. It is a great way to enjoy mountain fresh air and embrace the outdoors (even in the snow) with friends and family.

Canadian Outback Adventures & Events offers great snowshoe tours for all ages and abilities. Snowshoe tours in Whistler range from beginner and family-friendly hikes to full day adventures. While you are out enjoying the scenic mountain trails the guides will teach you about natural medicine and traditional remedies used by the First Nations people.

Snowshoe tours are also available in Jasper, Alberta. The stunning beauty and landscape of the Rocky Mountains provides an amazing backdrop for a fun winter adventure. Grab a friend, grab your family, grab your co-workers and get outside for a snowshoe adventure in Jasper. Try something new, you will be amazed at how easy and enjoyable this winter activity can be.

Happy snowshoeing!!
~Shannen
